Introduction of Lateef Salami

“I am going to take part in ISA, because I hope to tackle problems of office equipment waste, a major but often neglected contributor to environmental degradation in Nigeria and a veritable source of wealth creation for individuals and businesses if properly managed.”

Lateef Salami is an engineer from Nigeria and the founder of Bluesky Digitech. Among his clients are universities, hospitality businesses and financial institutions among several others. He focuses on the problem of toners and ink cartridges, that are usually dumped together with general waste, because there is no recycling system in his country. The only available non-original cartridges were from China and of dubious quality.

His ISA project aims to design a sustainable business based on the reuse of ink and Toner cartridges. The process of re-manufactured cartridges involves retrieving the empty cartridges, disassembling, cleaning, refilling and engineering (reconstructing) the previously emptied cartridge to produce usable products that can be sold at a price below the cost of the original new cartridge.
