EMPOWERING HAITI’S YOUTH TO COMBAT THE CLIMATE CRISIS IN THEIR COUNTRY
“Participating in ISA will undoubtedly be an essential asset for my community project because it can help me, throughout my research, to get the necessary resources to carry out my project once I am back home and strengthen my experience at the same time.”
Djivenson Macius is a climate activist and educator in Haiti. Djivenson is a member of several youth organizations working for climate justice, both nationally and internationally. He is the founder and contact point for “CliMates-Haiti” and “SWP”, two Haitian branches of two European organizations (based in France and Switzerland respectively). Through these organizations, he implements climate education projects in Haiti, intending to build the capacities of the most affected and least informed young people and engage them in the fight against climate change.
His ISA project is in line with SDG 13 – climate action, which aims to strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards. The project also supports SDG 4 – quality education, ensuring that young Haitians are informed and prepared to address environmental challenges. Through the ISA program, Djivenson intends to create ecological clubs, which will promote SDG 17 – partnerships for the goals – by encouraging collaborative efforts. He attaches paramount importance to education/training in the fight against climate change and in achieving the SDGs in Haiti.
