Take aways by Nondas Silva from the Regenerative Agriculture Summit Europe 2024
Our fellow Nondas Ferreira da Silva has recently attended the Regenerative Agriculture Summit Europe in Amsterdam from 3 – 5th of September, 2024. On his return, we asked him for a summary of his takeaways the conference:
What was surprising?
It was very surprising to see many different farms involved in regenerative agriculture coming together. It was also interesting to see how investors are looking to support projects in Brazil.
What shocked you?
The event had an online platform and an application where you could check all the information about the ongoing workshops and schedule meetings with participants. The platform was very user-friendly, and the speakers had also allocated free time for meetings during the event. This greatly facilitated connections with potential partners. (We confirmed later that this was rather a “positive shock, in Brasilien language widespread”. )
What was completely new? Some aspects of data acquisition for valuing good regenerative practices were new to me, especially at the government framework level. It was important to see how European legislation is making efforts to collect different types of data from farmers to improve the value chain of regenerative agriculture.
Final thoughts:
The conference presented a very high-level discussion, aligning implementation techniques, acquiring data for measurements and monitoring, and developing financial frameworks to upscale regenerative agriculture. It was also nice to see the engagement and mobilization of different stakeholders. As a Brazilian, I realized that we need to improve our understanding and data acquisition for the various agroforestry systems we have been developing in Brazil, as well as their productivity, to reach this potential market.
P.D. As per today’s news (17.09.2024): Many congratulations Nondas, to your first approved project proposal by CEPF (Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund) (40.000 €) to further promote the restoration in the Cerrado Biome.
